Visit a Magical Island – Musha Cay in the Bahamas

In July 2006, the world’s most famous magician bought the world’s most famous island. David Copperfield presents an unforgettable experience at Musha Cay.

Musha Cay is located in the Exuma island chain, 137 kilometres southeast of Nassau, and is the home of David Copperfield. It is a private-island resort that Copperfield has made into a magical destination spot.

Eight years ago, David Copperfield visited the place orbiting astronauts agreed was “the most beautiful place in the world”. Copperfield said of Musha Cay, “Being there, I felt a special energy, and its incredible beauty took my breath away.” He plans to make “The Islands of Copperfield Bay” (eleven private islands and 40 private beaches) a place of tranquility, renewal, and adventure where impossible dreams become reality.

The entire experience will be enhanced with Copperfield’s “moments of magic”. If guests choose, they can experience the magical moments on one of the three islands that surround Musha Cay. Options include the Musha Olympic Games complete with opening and closing ceremony, swimming and snorkelling where the James Bond Thunderball movie was shot, and a kicked-up version of laser tag, among others.

Accommodations at Musha Cay

To ensure absolute privacy, Musha Cay is rented out to one person at a time that can come alone or bring up to twenty-three friends. There are five private residences for the guests to enjoy. Each residence has its own amenities including a fully equipped kitchen and its own private beach. Highview, the grandest residence, is 10,000 square-feet and boasts two master bedrooms, a living and dining pavilion, a hot tub, sauna, widespread gardens, and a wrap-around mahogany deck with inspiring views of the water.

State-of-the-art plasma TVs and stereo systems accessorize the home. The romantic one-bedroom thatched-roof Beach House has a quixotic open-air shower and bathroom. The Pier House and Blue Point are both two-bedroom homes while the Palm Terrace has five bedrooms and is geared for family groups. Copperfield has decorated every villa with antiques and treasures collected from his world wide travels. And for your culinary pleasure, each residence has its own fruit trees and fresh food is flown in daily upon your request.

The Landings overlooks Copperfield Bay and is the gathering spot for most of the guests. This heart of the resort has an open air dining pavilion, bar, meeting area, conference facilities, and a billiard room with Houdini’s own pool table. Most meals are served in The Landings – unless you want them served poolside or elsewhere of course!

Musha Cay facilities among the 150 acres include a freeform fresh water ocean-view pool, a beachside fitness centre, lighted tennis court, indoor/outdoor massage rooms, and numerous water vehicles. Musha Cay offers water-skiing, wind surfing, deep-sea and flats fishing, and unlimited use of sailboats, wave runners, skiffs, and a 30 foot fishing boat. You can also snorkel and scuba dive among some of the most marvellous and untainted coral reefs found anywhere on the planet.

A staff of thirty-five will tend to your every desire. A world-class chef will prepare your meals after consulting with you. All lobster and fish served were swimming in the waters around Musha Cay just hours before.

The guests travel around the island via one of forty golf carts on flower-lined paths. That is if you prefer not to walk among the lush gardens, on the 40 beaches, and on the pathways that wind around the island. Thirty different bird species reside on Musha.

Copperfield has grand plans to make the retreat even more luxurious. Currently he is in the process of creating a secret island underground village that monkeys will call home.

Your Own Private Sandbar

As if the island experience isn’t perfect enough at Musha Cay, for a few hours every day you can have your own personal sandbar. When the tide is low, a sandbar almost two kilometres long emerges and you can walk out with only the sound of the water lapping around you to keep you company. It is a perfect locale for quiet contemplation, shell collecting, or just gazing at the line where the water meets the sky.

Despite being isolated from the rest of the world, Musha Cay has every convenience its guests would need. The island generates its own electricity and produces over 100,000 litres of desalinated water every day. A cistern under the tennis court holds 1.3 million litres of pure water. The island even has its own television station with thirty channels including HBO and Cinemax. Movie buffs will love Dave’s Drive-in, a state-of-the-art giant outdoor movie theatre on Coconut Beach. Instead of sitting in a cramped car though, you will relax on chaise lounges.

Access to Musha Cay

Musha Cay is easily accessible via private or commercial flight. You can be in Musha three hours after leaving New York City or Chicago or in 40 minutes if leaving from Miami. Commercial service by Bahamasair or American Eagle is available to Mosstown, Great Exuma. From there the Musha Cay private aircraft will take you to the island in less than ten minutes. There is a 2,000 square foot landing strip on Rudder Cut Cay, an adjacent 350-acre island for those arriving in their own plane. If you are arriving by sea, the dock can accommodate 200-feet vessels. There is also a helipad for those arriving by chopper.
